We are delighted to announce the commencement of our association with the prestigious IPL franchisers for Season 11, that kickstarted on the splendid evening of 7th of April 2018. A glittering opening ceremony was held at the iconic Wankhede stadium, amongst an enthusiastic crowd, right before the first IPL match!
Although the star-studded event was a phenomenal success, it could have been a 100% hitch-less affair if the organisers (Four Pillars Event Management Services Pvt. Ltd.) had shown the foresight of procuring requisite public performance rights! Basically, the usage rights for ‘ground-performance of sound recordings’ played in the event were ‘held’ by Novex Communications. Some of these unauthorised songs played were Saree Ke Fall Sa – R Rajkumar (Eros), Gandi Baat – R Rajkumar (Eros), Swag Se Swagat – Tiger Zinda Hai (YRF), Dhoom Machale – Dhoom-3 (YRF), Dil Diyan Gallan – Tiger Zinda Hai (YRF), Kaala Chashma – Baar Baar Dekho (ZEE) and Jag Ghumeya – Sultan (YRF).

Considering our vast repertoire of upbeat and trending music (sound recordings), this is a perfect association! T20 Mumbai League is a unique mix of sports and entertainment and it is safe to say that by using songs held by us, they have increased the entertainment quotient of the entire series!
Novex Communications is proud to announce an alliance with the music industry giant Tips Industries Limited for their ‘sound recordings’ rights. This Assignment Agreement grants exclusive rights to NOVEX for all On-Ground Performances of TIPS songs (Sound Recordings), effective from 1st April 2018. The agreement covers pan-India public performances rights to commercial establishments for accessing the vast repertoire of over 45,000 multi-genre songs.
With the recent litigation against Royal Plaza, a prominent hotel in the national capital, we have moved a step ahead towards spreading awareness about copyright infringement laws in the NCR region. An injunction order for Royal Plaza was secured from the Delhi High Court by Novex Communications in September 2016. The hotel had failed to secure requisite Non-Exclusive Public Performance Rights in Sound Recordings for playing music for commercial entertainment purposes. A strict judicial ruling like this furthers our motivation towards protecting the rights of copyright owners.
The New Year celebrations turned out not-too-merry for the Delhi based five-star hotel, Le Me-ridien. They have been restrained by way of Injunction from utilizing the Sound Recordings of Novex until further court orders. Basically, the luxury hotel had organised and managed various events, including ‘New Year’s Eve held on 31st December’17, for entertaining their guests/viewers. During these occasions, they had played sound recordings in the background in their banquets, res-taurants, and live events.
The impact of the Copyright Laws has just steamed up! A renowned five-star hotel from Delhi, The Grand, has been caught in Copyright Infringement lawsuit. On 26th September 2016, they have been served an injunction, restraining them from using the Sound Recordings (of whose rights lie with Novex), until further court order.
The company’s managing director Ketan Kanakia told TOI that the FIR was recently filed under the Indian Copyright Act, 1957 after a couple of Bollywood hits owned by the company were played by the Sunburn organizers. The company had warned them on the necessity of obtaining the licence to play the songs.
A hotel in Juhu (Mumbai), Ramee Guestline is facing a peculiar problem. The Juhu police has registered a complaint against them for playing copyrighted music without obtaining due public performance rights from Novex.
An FIR has been filed against Tamasha Pub in Lower Parel (Mumbai) on 16th Dec 2017, for copyright infringement based on a complaint registered by Novex Communications. The Pub was playing the songs which includeKala Chashma from the movie BaarBaarDekho, Laila Main Laila from the movie Raees and Nashe Si Chad gayi from the movie Befikrewithout paying for it — the rights of which were assigned to NovexCommunications by Zee Music&Yash Raj Films. The same company has filed FIRs against many such Pubs, Clubs, Five-Star Hotels, Resorts, and Malls as well.
