Music without Rights: FIR against Ramee Guestline Hotel, Juhu (Mumbai)

A hotel in Juhu (Mumbai), Ramee Guestline is facing a peculiar problem. The Juhu police has registered a complaint against them for playing copyrighted music without obtaining due public performance rights from Novex.

Novex Communications Pvt Ltd, a copyright assignor of Zee Music, yash Raj Films, Eros international and Shemaroohas lodged an FIR against the hotel management and the company, which had organized a function in their premises on Jan6, 2018. The musical piece which stirred trouble was Udta Punjab from the movie Udta Punjab, Sweetytera Drama from the movie bareliekibarfifor which Novex holds the copyright and the authority to grant rights to play it live in public.

Any establishment such as a Club, Hotel, Pub, Convention, Banquet Hall, Pub, Mall and Gym etc., needs to take an authorization for using copyrighted music for events such as cocktail parties, award functions, get-togethers, birthday parties or any other events.
